Gathering the speech count per episode is useful for understanding the amount of information being produced in the episodes. Some episodes have significantly smaller speech counts. Pulling this data allows us to then critically analyze why specific episodes have a higher or lower speech count.

to the reason we pulled the speech count per episode data this data gave us an idea of how much character interaction was occurring in specific episodes. If we wanted to we could then look deeper into the reasoning behind some episodes have higher or lower counts of character interaction. Interestingly enough there seems to be a relationship between the two data sets. When looking at how the graphs are shaped the columns on each graph are making the same shape.

The purpose of pulling this data is to get a general idea of how many characters are interacting in a given episode. Having this data allowed us to see a relation between number of characters and speeches/charActions in the three books. It also played a role in understanding how the episodes were driven. Whether they were considered developmental in the sense that there are many characters interacting creating a world for the viewer, or if it is filler that furthers the understanding of already known characters and their relationships.

This chart uses xquery to pull all the speech and charAction elements in our xml. It is then split up by which character is performing these speeches and actions. The results are what would be expected from a character importance basis. Having the main characters of the stroy drastically out weigh those that are of less importance. Another aspect of this graph that became an outlier of the rest of the graphic is `Jet's` results. Their speeches more than doubled the character's that took place within the three books.

The earth nation has some of the most diverse adjectives in comparison to the other nations. Firstly, starting out with the adjective "blind." This adjective doesnt match up with the imagined earth nation civilian that we can think of, but its here because a member of team avatar, Toph, is blind and makes jokes about her blindness to other characters. The next adjective would be "big," and this adjective make great sense as a characteristic for the earth nation. From watching the show, the were more large/bulky characters in this nation than any other. Not only this, but everything about the earth nation is huge. The continent is the largest, The city of Ba Sing Se is the largest city, it has a huge desert in the middle of the continent called the Si Wong Desert. The most interesting and surprising adjective on this list would be "secret." During the plot arc that took place in Ba Sing Se, there was a lot of shady business going on that we could tell was happening. The city did not know that there has been a war going on, and this was because the king of the earth kingdom was made unaware, by the Dai Li. The Dai Li are a secret elite police force that pulls political strings. This caused the King to reduce down to a figure head while the Dai Li ran everything. Because of their secretivness and large importance in the show it makes total sense that this adjective showed up as much as it did. But does this characterize the whole earth kingdom well? Yes! Because the earth kingdom was the first nation to be conquered by the fire nation. And because they were these earth villages were conquered, they would hide their true power from them so the arent seen as threatening or even to get a jump on them. For example in the episode "Imprisoned" the fire nation troops in a captured earth kingdom village would imprison people that had the ability to earthbend. So to avoid imprisonment, they would keep their bending a secret.

The water nation doesnt have as many unqique adjectives as the earth nation, but there is one adjective that stands out in comparison the rest. The adjective is "crazy." When you call someone else crazy, it is implied that you are not. And because people of the water nation are the ones saying it, they would be characterized as very calm and and collected much like their element.

A unique fire nation adjective would be "happy." We think that happy is very interesting because when you think of fire nation, you think of these very stern and cold fire nation soldiers. But We tend to forget about the everyday people of the firenation and only think of the war. We think happy is a great characteristic to describe the fire nation as and here is why. The fire nation began the 100 year war to spread their joy and rich culture to the rest of the world by colonizing it. Obviously nothing about that sounds happy, but when youre a citizen of that opressing nation and youre told that this war is for the betterment of the world. You would feel prideful to be a citizen. In the show, we could see how people of the fire nation lived their lives normally while in contrast, people of the captured earth village were living under miserable conditions.
